Half of industrial furnace rolls off truck, on SUV in Icard
Troopers discuss a crash where half of a large furnace rolled off a tractor trailer and onto an SUV Wednesday afternoon.
The driver of an SUV crushed by an industrial furnace Wednesday had non-life-threatening injuries.
Half of a large furnace rolled off a truck and onto his SUV on Old NC Highway 10 Wednesday evening. The driver of the SUV had non-life-threatening injuries.
A white SUV was headed north on Old NC Highway 10 in Icard near Cavalier Way when a southbound tractor trailer hauling a large industrial furnace hit the underside of the Interstate 40 bridge before 6:05 p.m. Wednesday, said NC State Highway Patrol Trooper B.C. Phillips.

Half of the furnace rolled off the tractor trailer and onto the SUV, hitting the windshield and roof, Phillips said.
The driver of the SUV was the only occupant. He sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital, Phillips said.
A portion of Old NC Highway 10 was shut down for more than two hours while troopers investigated the collision and worked to clear the road. The road opened just after 8 p.m.
The furnace was being taken to Winston-Salem for scrap metal.
Icard Township Fire Rescue responded to the collision along with Burke County EMS, the Burke County Sheriff’s Office, Burke County REACT and the North Carolina Department of Transportation.
